Challenge:
I wanted to create a dramatic portrait that captured the raw energy and mystique of Scarlet Witch. The challenge was to convey her power and intensity using practical lighting and atmospheric effects, without relying on heavy post-processing.
Solution:
I staged the figure against a simple dark backdrop and used red gels, small LED lights, and carefully placed diffusion to create a glowing, ethereal look. Smoke effects were added in-camera to give the scene movement and depth. By controlling the lighting angles and intensity, I was able to highlight the textures of the costume and create a sense of power radiating from her hands.
Result:
The final image feels cinematic and bold, with Scarlet Witch appearing to emerge from a swirling red mist. Practical effects and strategic lighting combined to create a dynamic, storytelling-driven portrait that celebrates the character’s fierce presence.

The model was small enough that a snoot could act like a beauty dish modifier. The glowing hands were shot utilizing long-exposure photography and a flashlight with a 3d printed snoot to control light direction.
