Challenge:
The goal was to recreate the dark and atmospheric mood of The Witcher in a dynamic scene featuring Geralt collecting his reward after slaying a giant. The challenge involved using practical props and lighting techniques to craft a visually compelling setup that captured the essence of the series.
Solution:
I designed the scene using a McFarlane action figure, a Halloween skull prop, and dollar store foliage to set the stage. To achieve a dramatic effect, I used long-exposure photography and highlighted specific areas with a torch equipped with a 3D-printed snoot. This lighting technique brought depth and focus to the scene, emphasizing the eerie, cinematic atmosphere.
Result:
The final image successfully conveyed the essence of The Witcher, blending practical effects and creative lighting to create a striking and immersive composition. The use of physical props and in-camera techniques elevated the storytelling, showcasing the potential of action figure photography.
The light was positioned at the back to create edge lighting, simulating the effect of moonlight. A fill light was added to the front to balance the exposure. A blue backdrop was used to allow cool ambient tones to spill into the image, enhancing the overall atmosphere.
In this image, I was experimenting with the long exposure lighting technique. The light source was modified using a 3D-printed snoot and covered with a blue gel to achieve the desired effect.
