Challenge:
I wanted to push my skills in building practical sets by creating an interpretation of Snyder and Capullo’s alternate Batman universe. The challenge was to design an abandoned asylum environment that felt gritty and believable, using mostly handmade props and minimal materials.
Solution:
I planned the shot using stock references to map out the environment. Most of the props, including the sink, window, and chair, were 3D printed. Additional elements like pipes and structural details were crafted from dollar-store straws and insulation foam. To achieve a decrepit, weathered look, I coated the set pieces with a mixture of grout and homemade pigment powders, adding realistic texture and aging effects to the scene.
Result:
The final image captures the decaying, haunted atmosphere of an abandoned asylum, bringing the world of The Last Knight to life. Practical set-building, texture work, and thoughtful lighting combined to create a richly detailed and immersive miniature environment.

Lighting is a mixture of LED on top, and a strobe light that was gelled red at the back.
