Challenge:
The objective was to recreate a scene inspired by Thor: Ragnarok, imagining the Hulk psyching himself up to Phil Collins’ "In the Air Tonight" before entering the Grandmaster's arena. The challenge was to rely on practical setups and in-camera effects rather than compositing, achieving a cinematic look with real-world materials and techniques.
Solution:
I built the scene using practical props and carefully staged elements to capture the Hulk’s dynamic presence. Lighting was key to enhancing the mood, with a focus on creating depth and drama through controlled, in-camera effects. Every detail, from the composition to the atmosphere, was crafted to reflect the humor and intensity of the movie while staying grounded in practical execution.
Result:
The final image brought the concept to life with a realistic and immersive scene, capturing the spirit of Thor: Ragnarok through practical techniques. The focus on in-camera effects created an authentic and visually engaging result that felt true to the cinematic inspiration.
I built the scene using dollar store wood pallets, weathering them with craft paints for a more realistic look. The windows, vents, and fuse box were 3D printed, while insulation foam was used to construct the locker and bench. For the lighting, I placed a torch outside the scene and positioned a strobe above the subject to create the desired effect.
